Not there yet.

While doing a little bedtime web browsing, I ran across this September 2007 article from USA Today about New Orleans College Prep. It's one of the two charter schools in Orleans Parish with whom I have interviewed so far.

Early June I had an impromptu group interview with two other corps members (one of whom is now my roommate) and the school director of Kipp Believe College Prep, followed later in the week by a second round with another administrator and a teacher from the same school. Kipp Believe is one of around 50 schools that make up the Knowledge Is Power Program, started by two TFA corps members in Houston in 1994. There are about three other Kipp schools in New Orleans (there are locations in Austin, Houston and Kansas City, MO for those of you who might find that interesting). Then, last weekend I was called for an interview with Ben Kleban, the founder and school director of New Orleans College Prep. He flew in from New Orleans to interview 10 corps members for English, Math and Science positions in 6th and 7th grade. I can never tell after these interviews how I've fared. There is a little bit of competitiveness that flares up before and after each, and I have to check myself and remember that I will be working toward the same critical change regardless of where I'm placed.

Nevertheless, I am taken by the commitment of the leadership and staff of these schools to doing whatever it takes in the interest of ensuring their students achieve at high levels. Read the article and check out the websites and you'll see what I mean.

glad to read this. i can't imagine what it must feel like to be interviewed but not have a clue... only it sounds a bit like the appointment process... knowing the options, but not knowing what the result will be.

regardless, you will make change. i love you.
